The James Logan High School Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will be performing at the Sonoma Invitational Wind Band Festival on Friday, March 13, 2015. The festival is being held at the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park, CA. This event features California high school bands performing in a non-competitive environment.
Our students will load and board the buses at 11:30 AM. The trip will depart at 12:00 noon from Logan and will return at 10:30 PM. Logan's performances are at 5:05 PM and 6:15 PM. Sonoma Invitational Wind Band Festival information
The 2015 WGI Color Guard Regional Championships are coming up on Saturday on March 7, 2015! Once again, James Logan High School has the privilege of hosting this HUGE event for WGI. This is also a major event and fundraiser for Logan. Forty-three scholastic and independent color guard units from all across California are will be participating. The schedule consists of preliminaries competitions in the morning and afternoon followed by finals competitions in the evening and night. Performances will be running continuously from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM!
Needless to say, in order for an event of this magnitude to succeed and run smoothly, we will need LOTS help from many volunteers. Help is needed in the following areas:
- Parking lots – Provide parking directions to arriving guard units
- Crosswalk – Ensure a safe crossing between the parking lot and the Pavilion
- Check-in – Welcome the guard directors, provide information and directions
- Entries and exits – Collect tickets, direct and sequence guard units to their performance
- Snack bar – Sell snacks and drinks, cook and prepare hot foods
- Hospitality – Staff the hospitality suite for judges and directors
- First-aid – It's all fun and games until someone breaks a nail
- Student volunteers – Run materials to judges, fill in where needed (community service hours)
This is a call for all Logan Band Boosters, families, friends and neighbors and alumni to step up and volunteer for one (or more) of the available positions. Besides helping make this event possible, you will have lots of fun also as you meet and work beside many other long-time and first-time booster volunteers. As with all of the shows that we host, we provide a hospitality suite for the judges and visiting directors to relax and grab a bite to eat during this very busy day. Logan has a long standing reputation for providing the best in hospitality and food! You can help us continue this tradition by donating your favorite dishes to share or, if you need suggestions, here is a list of what we need and some examples:
- Breakfast items (donuts, muffins, croissants, fruits, hot breakfast items, etc.) Drop off to teacher's lounge by 8:30 AM
- Lunch items (sandwiches, pasta, salad, favorite hot lunch items, etc.) Drop off to teacher's lounge by 11:00 AM
- Dinner items (pancit, favorite hot dinner items, etc.) Drop off to teacher's lounge by 4:30 PM
- Finger foods (lumpia, shrimp balls, samosa, tempura, etc.) Drop off to teacher's lounge to serve for either lunch or dinner
- Desserts (cookies, cakes, brownies, fruit salad, etc.) Drop off to teacher's lounge to serve for either lunch or dinner
- Snacks (peanut M&M's, chocolate bars, etc.) Drop off to teacher's lounge anytime before 11:00 AM

The proceeds from this show goes into the Booster's general fund, all of which directly help fund Logan Band and Color Guard student activities.

How does this work? You take your families and friends and dine out at Buffalo Wild Wings (in Union Landing directly across from the Century 25 theater). Bring our flyer with you and give it to your server. Enjoy your meal! Buffalo Wild Wings will automatically calculate and donate 10% of your total bill to the James Logan Band and Color Guard Boosters. This is not an organized event so just go between 11:00 AM and 2:00 AM. You will very likely see other Logan families there, especially around dinner time.
Please print as many flyers as you need and give them to your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. They do not need to be Logan Boosters or Logan families in order to participate. We get 10% as long as they eat there and present our flyer.

We are hosting another show at Logan! This Saturday, 1/31, the James Logan High School Band and Color Guard will be hosting this year’s CCGC color guard competition and percussion evaluation show.
The color guard competitions will begin at 4:15 PM and will end with awards at 10:28 PM. The Logan Open Guard performs at 9:20 PM and the Logan World Guard performs 9:38 PM. All times are approximate and are subject to change. There will be guard performances from many Northern California high schools and middle schools along with performances from several independent guard units. A full list of the participants and a detailed show schedule is available below. Spectator admission is $10.00 per person and children under 5 years of age are free.
The percussion show is an evaluation show only (no spectators). Each percussion unit will perform in front of the judges and they will receive an evaluation of their performance.
As with every show that Logan hosts, we will need lots of volunteers to help make this show a success! Some of the tasks are in the areas of parking lots, snack bar, hospitality, tickets, etc. Each booster member will be receiving an email message from VolunteerSpot; please read it and follow the directions to sign up for one (or more) of the available positions. Even if your students are not in guard or percussion, we would appreciate your stepping up to help. If you would like to volunteer but did not get a VolunteerSpot email message, please contact Alisha Valine at firstname.lastname@example.org.
At each show, we maintain a hospitality suite for the benefit of the judges and visiting directors to keep them well fed and refreshed. As such, we would appreciate food and drink donations. Suggestions include ethnic foods, appetizers, baked goods and snacks. If you have a favorite dish, bring it over so we can share it with the judges. Logan CCGC Show Schedule

Tickets are $45 each and includes an unlimited crab dinner (with one glass of wine or beer, pasta, salad, garlic bread and soda), no-host bar, silent auction, raffle and entertainment. The last day to buy your tickets is January 23.

- What is it?
The Western Band Association (WBA) Championships. Twenty-nine high school bands from all over California will be competing for first-place titles. The event is two-days long. Saturday is the Class Championships where awards will be presented for each class (4A and 5A). Sunday is the Grand Championships, where the 17 top bands (based on Saturday’s scores) from all classes are combined and will compete together for a single championship title.
- Where is it and how do I get there?
On Saturday, the WBA Class Championships will be at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
On Sunday, the WBA Grand Championships will be at the California State University in Fresno.
Both sites are approximately a three-hour drive from Union City and minutes from each other. General directions: I-880 N, CA-238 S, I-580 E, I-205 E, I-5 N, CA-120 E, CA-99 S. See full addresses and directions below.
- Where do I park?
On Saturday, there is spectator parking throughout the Buchanan campus. The largest parking lot is right next to the stadium on Nees Ave. If this lot is full, it may be more convenient to park on the streets nearby.
On Sunday, the spectator parking lot is located near Barstow Ave and Cedar Ave, across the street (kitty-cornered) from the CSU Fresno stadium.
- What are the ticket prices?
Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, free for children 6 and under. Your admission is good for BOTH Saturday and Sunday. Don’t lose or toss your wristband after Saturday!
- What time do the shows start and end?
The Saturday competition starts at 9:55 AM with the class 4A bands. The class 5A bands begin at 4:45 PM. The show is over at 7:45 PM.
On Sunday the show starts at 10:00 AM with the 1A/2A/3A competitions. The 4A/5A competitions begin at 3:00 PM. The show is over at about 8:15 PM.
- What time does Logan perform?
Logan is scheduled to perform at 5:45 PM on Saturday. On Sunday, the time is not yet known; it will be announced after Saturday’s performances. Logan’s Sunday start time will depend upon their Saturday score. We hope they perform in the last time slot! Check our Facebook page for the latest information.
- Where is the full performance schedule?

Sunday’s schedule will be posted on the WBA website Saturday night. We will post it on our Facebook page and/or band website also as soon as it is published.
- When should I get there?
Accounting for parking, buying tickets and walking to your seats, plan to arrive at least one hour ahead to be sure that you won’t miss anything. Get there early and watch the other bands too!
- Will I be the only one there from Logan?
Only if you arrive after 8:00 PM on Saturday. Otherwise, you will see lots of Logan people.
- Where should I sit?
Center section, up higher for the best viewing. Sitting lower will get you (a little) closer to the bands but you won’t see their routines and formations as well. You may also want to seek out your fellow Logan folks and sit by them for the comradery; look for the red and black Logan shirts and jackets.
- What should I wear?
Anything “Logan”. Anything red and black. Anything warm.
- What else should I bring?
Blankets, folding stadium chairs, seat cushions, blankets, binoculars, camera, extra blankets, small umbrella (just in case), your favorite snacks (there is a full snack bar on site).
- Where does our band and guard rehearse while they are in Fresno?
They will be holding rehearsals on the grounds of CSU Fresno in the mornings.
- Can I come out to the rehearsals?
Yes, you are welcomed to be at the rehearsals. The students will love to see you there. However, please do not distract the students and staff during the rehearsals. They have some serious mojo going on so let’s not disturb them.
- Will I be able to be with my band or guard student during the weekend?
Probably not. They are on a strict schedule and are well guarded by their chaperones. There will be a few moments of downtime while they eat. But, they probably won’t want to hang with you anyway. Don’t take any offense to this, however. Remember, this is THEIR weekend. Let them enjoy their time with their friends! You can hang out with the boosters, families and alumni.
- What is there for me to do besides watching the shows?
The Logan band boosters are organizing a pot-luck “tailgate” lunch on Saturday at around 1:15 PM. Come find us by the buses and the big Logan trailer in the Buchanan High School parking lot near Gate #5. Bring a dish to share… or not.
Saturday evening and Sunday morning, you are on your own. Get together with other Logan families and friends and explore Clovis or Fresno. There are many places to eat nearby.
- Where are the students and staff staying in Fresno?
At the University Square Hotel. However, don’t bother going there. Saturday night, the students will get off the buses and go straight to their hotel rooms for the night.
- What about the Fresno weather?
