James Logan Takes 2nd Place at WBA Championship

Congratulations to Logan Band and Colorguard for taking 2nd place in the 2011 WBA Class 4A/5A Championships, and the Auxiliary caption award with an outstanding score of 99.00 by our Colorguard!  After the incredibly close 2nd place finish at Saturday's Preliminary competition, Logan's students were determined to give it everything they had despite the obstacles.   And so valiantly they trudged onto a muddy high school field Sunday morning, enduring the cold, rainy weather for one last practice.   Following a short break to eat and dry out some, the group made its way to Santa Barbara City College for the Championships.

As Logan took the field, our amazing boosters gave their everything to encourage the performers as a light rain fell.  And perform they did.    The tension was tangible as the crowd waited for the group to set up.  The rain took its toll on the electronics and several pieces of gear had to be disconnected (hence the lack of Alan Fang's nice flute solo to set the anticipation during "The Sway").  Finally, the Band and Color Guard burst into their powerful opening, gaining the crowd's full attention.   Holding a collective breath until Ken Yanagihara opened the show with his season-best rifle toss and solid catch, the boosters erupted and continued their loud support throughout the rest of the show.   Despite the cold, wet conditions, the Band and Colorguard looked and sounded even better than during Preliminaries.   The Colorguard was near-perfect in every aspect.   The Band notched it up a step as well, and despite the wet footing, they executed all their maneuvers without mishap.   All in all, it was a traditional James Logan top-notch performance.

When the scores were finally announced, Logan fell short, scoring an impressive 95.80, but was again beat out by Ayala HS who scored 96.70.  The General Effect, Music and Visual caption awards were claimed by Ayala.   However James Logan took over the Auxiliary caption, won by Ayala during Prelims.   Percussion caption was awarded to Chino Hills. Full scoring results can be found here: Summary | Scorecard

As we close out the 2011 season, it's worth noting why we are so proud of our James Logan Band and Colorguard.   After the results were announced our group of fine performers showed their appreciation for the winners with utmost class, giving Ayala a nice round of applause.   True competitors, true class, true James Logan Band and Color Guard!

Good job Logan! We're very proud of you!
